Oceânico Golf becomes Official Partner for Portugal Masters

Oceânico Golf, the major player in the golf, property and leisure markets in Portugal and with a portfolio that includes Vilamoura’s ‘famous five’ championship courses has reinforced its growing relationship with The European Tour by becoming Official Partner for the 2008 Portugal Masters.

The Portugal Masters, to be played from October 16-19, will again be hosted by the critically acclaimed Oceânico Victoria golf course, where England’s Steve Webster claimed an emotional victory in last year’s inaugural event.

Gerry Fagan, Director and Shareholder of the Oceânico Group, said:“The Portugal Masters was a huge success last year and we are very pleased to be developing an even closer relationship with the event and The European Tour in general. The event attracts a strong field and we are confident we will have some of Europe’s finest players with us later this year. The European Tour provides a great platform for us to showcase the quality on offer in our Oceânico Golf and Leisure portfolio coupled with the spectacle of Europe’s best golfer’s doing battle at one of our flagship venues.”

George O’Grady, Chief Executive of The European Tour, said: “We are delighted to further develop our partnership with Oceânico. Oceânico has firmly established itself as a major player in the golf industry and the partnership with The European Tour will hopefully be a long and prosperous one. I know the players enjoyed the course and facilities at Vilamoura last year.”

Oceânico’s comprehensive marketing activity around the Portugal Masters will include a special Pro-Am tournament to launch its two new Amendoeira courses designed by six-time Major winner and this year’s Ryder Cup Captain Nick Faldo and Irish golfing legend Christy O’Connor Jnr. Oceânico will also embark on a TV and online marketing campaign to maximise the association with the Portugal Masters and The European Tour.

The deal was announced at last week’s KPMG Golf Business Forum at the Ritz Carlton, Powerscourt, Ireland where Gerry Fagan and George O’Grady were both guest speakers.
