José Maria Olazábal of Spain will be determined to protect one of the most jealously guarded records since Wentworth Club became the permanent home of the Volvo PGA Championship in 1984 when he tees up in the 2003 event from May 22-25.
The 1994 Champion holds the record number of consecutive cuts made - 15 - since his debut in the event in 1986, when he finished tied 44th behind Australian Rodger Davis during a rookie season in which he claimed second place in the Volvo Order of Merit.
Olazábal goes into his 16th Volvo PGA Championship over the famous West Course aiming to maintain his sequence and equal the total of 16 cuts achieved by two-time past Champion, Ian Woosnam of Wales, who has missed three cuts in accumulating that tally.
The Spaniard's closest rival is Colin Montgomerie, the only player to have won the Volvo PGA Championship on three successive occasions from 1998-2000. Since missing the final two days on his Championship debut in 1989, the Scot has played all four rounds in the last 13 Volvo-sponsored events at Wentworth Club.
However, Olazábal remains the only man with an unblemished record, having shot under par in 41 of his 60 rounds in the Volvo PGA Championship at Wentworth Club.
Additionally, he has enjoyed 11 top-25 finishes and been in the top ten on five occasions, including that 1994 victory from South Africa's Ernie Els.
Nick Faldo, a winner at Wentworth Club in 1989 soon after his first Masters Tournament victory, missed his only cut over the West Course in 1993 while three players have come close to approaching Woosnam with a total of 14 successful cuts - Sandy Lyle, Andrew Oldcorn and Sam Torrance.
Olazábal said: "I have always enjoyed playing in the Volvo PGA Championship at Wentworth Club and I will be trying my best to extend that record to 16 successive cuts next week.
"I remember starting the last round three shots behind Ernie in 1994 and shooting a 65 to win the title by a shot. It is a great Championship to win and I am looking forward to returning to Wentworth."
