Olesen still on a high at Woburn

Thorbjørn Olesen admits he is still on cloud nine after his Alfred Dunhill Links Championship victory on Sunday, and cannot wait to tee it up in the British Masters supported by Sky Sports this week.

The Dane masterminded a two-stroke victory at St Andrews for his third European Tour title, in the process putting behind him a difficult few months during which he had wrist surgery and suffered a dip in form.

The 25 year old was 124th in The Race to Dubai before the win and needing a good result to keep his card for 2016, but now is riding high at 25th and focusing on a strong finish to the campaign in The European Tour’s Final Series.

Before that, however, Olesen must get back to business at the British Masters, which has returned to the schedule for the first time since 2008, at the magnificent Woburn Golf Club in Bedfordshire, England.

“I still feel great and I’m still walking around with a huge smile on my face,” said Olesen. “I’ve tried to enjoy it as much as possible the last couple of days and I’ve been trying to let it sink in.

“Now it’s time to start thinking about this tournament and I’ve got to knuckle down and get back to my job.

“I’m a lot more relaxed as before last week I had the pressure of trying to keep my card for next season. Now I can play a little more freely without that worry, and the confidence is sky high, as it always is after you win.”

Olesen, who lives in London and has been on The European Tour since graduating from the Challenge Tour in 2010, got to grips with Woburn’s Marquess’ course earlier in the summer, for Open Championship qualifying.

“I played 36 holes on this course in June, and I really like it,” he said. “With practice for that as well, I’d say I know it quite well. It’s tight and you have to be accurate with your shots.

“I’m really looking forward to teeing it up – it’s always nice after a win. You walk around with a big smile and lots of people congratulating you. It makes you feel very good.”
