CNN International has been announced as the international media sponsor of the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, which will take place at Emirates Golf Club from February 4-7 2010.
Promoted and organised by golf in DUBAI, the $2.5million event has a stellar field bolstered by the presence of Tom Watson, European Number One Lee Westwood and defending champion Rory McIlroy.
As part of the agreement, CNN International’s in-house production unit Turner Commercial Productions will produce and broadcast commercials to promote the 2010 Omega Dubai Desert Classic to millions households in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia Pacific, bringing an unprecedented level of exposure for the event, which has become a permanent feature of The European Tour since 1989.
Rani R Raad, Senior Vice President of CNN International’s advertising sales, said: “CNN already has a longstanding and very successful relationship with golf in DUBAi through our sponsorship of the annual Dubai Desert Classic. We are, therefore, very pleased to continue our support of golf in the region.”
Mohammed Juma Buamaim, Vice-Chairman and CEO of golf in DUBAi, sees the association as a major achievement for the region’s sporting culture.

Golf in DUBAi is backed by Omega as the title sponsor and Dubal (Dubai Aluminium) as the sponsor while BMW, CNN International, Emirates Airline, Emirates NBD, Gulf News, Jumeirah Golf Estates, Jumeirah Hotels, MasterCard and wasl are co-sponsors in its drive to showcase the emirate's vibrant golfing scene to a worldwide audience.
