Omega European Masters - Tournament Summary

There are few more spectacular locations in the world of golf than the Crans-sur-Sierre course high in the mountains of Crans Montana which, for the 64th year, will play host once again to the Omega European Masters. Even before a ball was struck last year, the tournament made history when it became the first event to be co-sanctioned by The European Tour and the Asian Tour to be staged on European soil. Although the Asian contingent performed well in the mountain air, it was a European who triumphed in the guise of Sweden’s Alex Noren. Seeking his first European Tour title, Noren’s nerves were jangling when, trying to hold off a charging Bradley Dredge in the final round, he found himself facing a tricky bunker shot at the 15th. But the Swede made light of the difficulty of the stroke, flighting the ball beautifully from the sand into the hole for an eagle three. The stroke gave Noren a vital cushion from where he went on to complete his maiden Tour victory, a two shot success in the end over Dredge with Englishman Ross McGowan taking third. It also finally convinced the Swede he was free of the injury woes which had blighted his early season.
