Craig Parry moved up 73 spots to Number 45 in the world this week when he won the third of the year’’s World Golf Championship events – the NEC Invitational. Parry, who qualified for the tournament through his victory in the New Zealand Open, picked up the $1 million first prize and his first victory on the PGA Tour in 235 starts. Runner-up Fred Funk continued his upward movement on the world ranking as he improved 14 positions to World Number 36 while Robert Allenby moved up ten positions to World Number 24.
In the Diageo Scottish PGA Championship on The European Tour, Adam Scott obliterated record after record to become the fourth multiple winner on The 2002 European Tour International Schedule. Scott moved up 12 positions in the Ranking from Number 61 to Number 49.
On the US PGA Tour, the former UNLV star Chris Riley picked up his first PGA Tour victory as he outlasted Jonathan Kaye with a par on the first hole of a play-off. Riley moved up 12 positions and into the World Top 50 at Number 42. Jonathan Kaye moved up 26 spots to Number 111 in this week’’s World Ranking.
After a four month break, the Asian PGA Tour made a very welcome return to the Official World Golf Ranking calendar as the Mercuries Masters at Taiwan Golf and Country Club was won by the Tsai Chi-Huang. The 33 year-old from Taiwan moved to World Number 584.
In the week’’s other tournaments Taggart Ridings won the Permian Basin at Midland Country Club on the BUY.COM tour. Tidings moved up to World Number 555. In the two European Challenge Tour events Simon Hurd won the Rolex Trophy at Golf Club de Geneve to move to Number 366 in the world. In the Skandia PGA Open at Halmstad GC, Thomas Besancenez was victorious and he moved to World 616=.
