Paul Lawrie Named as Wild Card for The Seve Trophy

Scotland’’s Paul Lawrie has been selected by Great Britain and Ireland captain, Colin Montgomerie, as his wild card for The Seve Trophy against Continental Europe at Campo de Golf Parador El Saler, Valencia, Spain, from November 6-9.

The 34 year old Ryder Cup player and 1999 Open Champion took part in the first two editions of the event, won in 2000 by Continental Europe and by Great Britain and Ireland in 2002, playing nine individual ties and collecting a total of four points.

Montgomerie said: “I am delighted to have the option to pick a Major winner and a Ryder Cup player to strengthen an already strong-looking team. We as a team look forward to defending The Seve Trophy on Spanish soil”.

Seve Ballesteros, the Continental Europe captain, named fellow Spaniard José Maria Olazábal as his wild card on Sunday evening.

Continental Europe: Seve Ballesteros (captain), Thomas Björn, Alex Cejka, Niclas Fasth, Sergio Garcia, Ignacio Garrido, Fredrik Jacobson, Raphaël Jacquelin, Miguel Angel Jiménez. Wild card: José Maria Olazábal

Great Britain and Ireland: Colin Montgomerie (captain), Paul Casey, Darren Clarke, Brian Davis, Padraig Harrington, Ian Poulter, Phillip Price, Justin Rose, Lee Westwood,. Wild card: Paul Lawrie.
