Paul Lawrie Withdraws from US PGA Championship

Paul Lawrie, the 1999 Open Golf Champion, has reluctantly withdrawn from the US PGA Championship at Oak Hill, Rochester, New York, next week due to illness. Lawrie consulted his doctor before taking the decision not to fly to the United States.

The Scottish Ryder Cup player said: "Having consulted my doctor this afternoon I have been advised to withdraw from the US PGA Championship.

"I have a neck problem that is causing headaches and I have been feeling very tired over the past few weeks. While tests do not suggest that anything serious is wrong, I've been advised to rest for at least another week. I am very disappointed to miss the US PGA Championship."
