European Tour Honorary Member Vijay Singh has won the 2004 PGA Player of the Year Award and the Vardon Trophy, two awards presented annually by the PGA of America.

Singh, topped the US PGA Tour Money list for a second successive season with record earnings of $10,905,166 after a sensational year that included nine season victories, and finished the year by earning his first Vardon Trophy.

The Fijian, who finished runner-up to Tiger Woods the previous two years in the Vardon Trophy race, ended the year with an adjusted scoring average of 68.84 based on 110 rounds. Another European Tour Honorary Member Ernie Els was runner-up in the Vardon Trophy standings with a 68.98 adjusted scoring average based on 58 rounds, while Woods was third at 69.04 after 72 rounds.

Singh secured his first PGA Player of the Year award three weeks earlier with 150 total points. He finished with 110 points in the victory column after winning the US PGA Championship (worth 30 points) and eight additional victories worth ten points each. He added a further 20 points for leading the money list and 20 points for leading the Vardon Trophy race.

Masters Champion Phil Mickelson finished second in the PGA Player of the Year standings with 70 points, followed by Els with 66 and US Open Champion and TOUR Championship winner Retief Goosen, also a European Tour Member, with 62.

Since 1948, The PGA of America has honored the game's best players with The PGA Player of the Year Award. The award is currently presented to the top touring professional based on a point system for tournament wins, official money standings and scoring averages. Points are tabulated from January 1 through to the TOUR Championship.

Since 1937, the Vardon Trophy, named in honor of famed British golfer Harry Vardon, has been awarded annually to the touring professional with the lowest adjusted scoring average. It is based on a minimum of 60 rounds, with no incomplete rounds, in events co-sponsored or designated by the US PGA Tour.
