Craig Lee’s surprise eagle two at the BMW Masters presented by SRE Group has been voted by My European Tour fans as the October Shot of the Month.
Having found the heart of the 16thfairway at Lake Malaren Golf Club the Scot fired his approach to the right edge of the green only for his ball to follow the contours round to the hole and disappear into the cup for an unlikely eagle two.
This was all unbeknownst to Lee back in the fairway, who was busy pulling his putter out of the bag when the crowd’s cheers alerted him to his success, and he receives this award having claimed 36 per cent of the online vote.
One lucky fan who chose the winning effort will receive a brand new set of Titleist 714 irons, the latest in a long line of great prizes on offer to those with membership of My European Tour.
In second place was Gregory Bourdy, with 20 per cent of the votes going to the Frenchman for his 100 foot snaking putt on the ninth hole during the same tournament as Lee’s effort in China. He narrowly edged out Graeme McDowell, who completes the top three with 16 per cent, thanks to an excellent effort of his own on the greens in Shanghai.
Lee will now go forward to contest the Shot of the Year prize alongside the other monthly winners from 2013, including Chris Wood (January), Charl Schwartzel (February), Anders Hansen (March), Maximilian Kieffer (April), Ernie Els (May), Justin Rose (June), Francesco Molinari (July), Danny Willett (August) and Peter Uihlein (September).
They will hope to follow in the footsteps of Louis Oosthuizen’s superb albatross two from the final round of the Masters Tournament, which took last season’s prize.
Stay tuned to europeantour.com in the coming weeks for the final Shot of the Month of this year, before the big one, the Shot of the Year, is launched in December.
