The European Tour marked the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Hong Kong Open with the presentation of the Thomas Lyte sterling silver putter to the Hong Kong Golf Association and Hong Kong Golf Club.
The presentation was made by George O’Grady, Chief Executive of The European Tour, during a dinner to mark this milestone for the oldest sporting event in Hong Kong.
The sterling silver golf putter, commissioned by The European Tour, is a replica of a late 18th century putter and is made in the London workshops of Thomas Lyte. It is created from a single sheet of silver and weighs around 1.5kgs. It was hand-made by our Master Silversmith, Kevin Williams, who has over 30 years experience in making bespoke silver objet and presentation pieces.
Attached to the shaft of the putter are x 12 decorative sterling silver balls and the putter is mounted onto a black plinth. One the plinth there are engraved plaques that list the previous 49 winners of the tournament together with a plaque featuring commemorative text.
