A weekly wrap up from each event in the UK Swing. Episode four – Celtic Classic
The Golf for Good Show returns for its fourth edition as the UK Swing left England for Wales and The Celtic Manor Resort, home of the 2010 Ryder Cup.
Sam Horsfield continued to show his good form in the European Tour’s return to action. The Englishman picked up his second title in three weeks across the famed 2010 layout. After a long suspension in play due to the threat of lightening, Horsfield played his last two holes in almost darkness to card a bogey free 67 and a two shot victory. This win also guaranteed him a spot in next months U.S. Open courtesy of the UK Swing Order of Merit.
Last week we previewed 2018 Ryder Cup Captain Thomas Bjorn’s charitable efforts as he prepared to set off for his #Wentworth2Wales challenge. The Dane finished his 210KM effort on Sunday afternoon, arriving at Celtic Manor with the Ryder Cup trophy in hand. Thomas’s efforts didn’t go unnoticed as support flooded in from Rory McIlroy, Liverpool FC and the man that inspired his epic challenge, Sir Tom Moore, the Army veteran who raised millions of pounds walking in his garden earlier in the pandemic period. Our local Hero this week was Ford Motor Company plant worker Scott Day from Southend. When the pandemic struck and his production line at Ford closed, Scott went straight to work helping assemble ventilators for the NHS. To celebrate his selfless act, we surprised him with a video call from Andy Sullivan and a year’s membership at Hanbury Manor Golf Club.
