Phillip Price birdied three of his last four holes to join a five way tie for the lead at the inaugural Volkswagen Masters – China, the Welshman chipping in on the last for a third round of 67 to move to 205, 11 under par, at the Pine Valley Golf Club.
That left Ryder Cup player Price in a share of the lead with Australian’’s Kim Felton and Adam Groom, Kang Wook-soon of Korea and India’’s Rahil Gangjee.
"I've been looking like I was going to play well all day,” said Price. “I hit lots of good shots but didn't make any putts on the front nine. I thought on the back nine, it was inevitable that a few putts would drop in.”
"If I keep playing like I'm doing I can shoot a really low score (tomorrow). So I think I’’d better pay attention to what I’’m doing rather than what the others are doing. I couldn't have asked for a better finish after chipping in for birdie on the 18th.”
China’’s Zhang Lian-wei endured a roller-coaster 69 that included six birdies, one bogey and a double bogey to lie two off the pace in tied seventh place with Korea's Mo Joong-kyung, American Jason Knutzon and Alistair Presnell of Australia.
Another Welshman Ian Woosnam moved up to a share of 28th place with a third round 66 taking him to four under par, one clear of England’’s Nick Faldo.
