International Management Group and Guinness UDV, co-owners of the Johnnie Walker Classic, have announced an increase in prize money for the 2002 Johnnie Walker Classic of £100,000 to £900,000.
The Johnnie Walker Classic, the richest event in Australia, takes place at the Lake Karrinyup Country Club, Perth, Western Australia from January 24-27. It is only the second time the Johnnie Walker Classic, tri-sanctioned by The European Tour, Australasian Tour and Asian PGA Tour, has been played in Australia in its 11 year history.
The field of 156 will comprise 60 European Tour players, 60 Australasian Tour players, 28 Asian PGA Tour players and eight sponsors invitations. Among the players confirmed for the Johnnie Walker Classic are Michael Campbell, Ernie Els, Nick Faldo, Sergio Garcia, Retief Goosen, Colin Montgomerie and Lee Westwood. Aaron Baddeley and Adam Scott will lead the home challenge in a bid to become the first Australian to win the title since Greg Norman in 1994.
