Putts the key for Nilsson

Christian Nilsson’s affinity for the Saint-Omer greens proved to be the bedrock for his six stroke victory in the SAINT-OMER Open presented by Neuflize OBC. A quick glance at the Genworth Financial Statistics show that Nilsson, who finished runner up to David Dixon last year, topped the Putts Per Green in Regulation category with and average of 1.703 putts per hole.

He was also third in the Putts Per Round category with an average of 27.5. Allied to his hot putter was some fine iron play, with Nilsson 11th finding an average of 12.7 Greens in Regulation per round, to finish the week 11th in that category with an average of 70.8 per cent.

While he proved the old adage of drive for show, putt for dough, the 30 year old was nevertheless equally impressive off the tee, with an average Driving Distance of 322.3 yards, finishing seventh in that particular category. The combination of the three helped him go one better than 2008 and land his first European Tour title.
