The R&A have announced an unchanged prize fund of £4.2 million for this month's Open Championship at Turnberry, with the Champion receiving £750,000 - the same as Padraig Harrington earned for defending his title successfully last year.
As in 2008, all 156 players in the field will receive a payment, irrespective of whether or not they miss the halfway cut. The last place prize is £2100 with the leading 65 players all collecting a minimum of £10,000. The winner of the Claret Jug picks up £750,00 with the runner-up earning £450,000 and the third player £290,000. The first nine players receive a minimum of £100,000.
