Rafa Cabrera Bello looking to bounce back in Thailand

Rafa Cabrera Bello is hoping to make the best of bad situation as he aims to continue his bright start to the season at the Thailand Classic.

The Spaniard achieved a top ten at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and while he missed the cut in Dubai, he hit back with tie for 13th at the Ras Al Khaimah Championship.

He did not make the weekend at last week's Singapore Classic but the 2016 Ryder Cup star has put the time to good use at Amata Spring Country Club and is looking forward to teeing it up in Thailand for the first time since 2015.

"I like Thailand, it’s hot but I don’t mind playing in the heat," he said. "I’ve had the opportunity to be out on the course, it’s a great course and in really good shape. I’m really looking forward to the start of this week.

"My game is fine. Some weeks it has felt really good, some weeks a little off. But I’ve had a decent start this year. Top ten in Abu Dhabi and 13th in Ras Al Khaimah, I’m hoping that this week I can play good golf.

"I got here early, unfortunately, because it didn’t go well in Singapore. But that has given me the opportunity to get a few more looks around the course and identify what needs to be done here to play well. I’ve been working on it the last few days and I’ll feel pretty ready when Thursday comes."

Amata Spring is no stranger to DP World Tour action, having hosted the Royal Trophy four times, and is home to one of the most spectacular par threes in the world.

The island green at the 17th is accessible only by boat, and Cabrera Bello believes that hole could play a crucial role this week.

"I think both nines start with a few easy holes, then they get tougher towards the end," he said.

"It’s a really exciting finish. The 16th, 17th and 18th are probably the three best holes of the course.

"I found it generous off the tee. There is a lot of water you need to keep in mind, but it feels like there are large landing areas. I don’t think driving will be the toughest part; a low score will win this week, so those second shots in have to be pretty accurate because the closer you are to the hole, the better."
