Jon Rahm has been voted the Golfer of the Month presented by DP World
Jon Rahm has been crowned October Golfer of the Month presented by DP World after receiving 46% of the public vote. Rahm won a landmark ACCIONA Open de España title in Madrid, equalling the great Seve Ballesteros as the only players to win the event three times.
The 2021 U.S. Open Champion returned to Club de Campo Villa de Madrid in the Spanish capital in solid form after a second-place finish at the BMW PGA Championship just a few weeks prior, looking for a hattrick of wins on home soil.
Rahm opened with an opening 64 to sit one stroke behind the leaders and followed that with a 68 on day two to put himself in prime position for the weekend. A six-under par 65 on Saturday vaulted him to the top of the leaderboard to set up a final round battle with Australian Min Woo Lee. But Sunday was all about the home favourite with a bestof the week round of 62 sealing a six-shot victory.
Englishman Jordan Smith came in second place with 27% of the vote after winning his first Tour title since 2017 at the Portugal Masters. Smith has been in red hot form in 2022 after starting his season with a T12, T9 and second place finish in the first three events of the season. One of the Tour’s premier ball strikers, Smith has had his best season to date and currently sits ninth in the DP World Tour Rankings.
Smith entered the week sporting a new putting grip, a change that he wanted to make at the end of the season but moved up his timeline for the final few events of the year. The change proved to be the right choice as he blew away the field finish at an impressive 30-under-par in his wire-to-wire victory.
Spaniard Adrian Otaegui was third in the voting after winning his fourth DP World Tour title at the Estrella Damm N.A Andalucia Masters hosted at the iconic Real Club Valderrama. Famously one of the toughest courses on the schedule, Otaegui fired four flawless rounds of 67-66-64-68 to post a 19-under-par total for a six-shot victory.
Rounding off the voting was German Yannik Paul, who won his first DP World Tour title in the final event of the Autumn Iberian swing at the Mallorca Golf Open. In one of the most congested leaderboards of the season, Paul posted a final round 72 with a birdie at the final hole to win by a shot.
