Graduates from The 2004 European Tour Qualifying School will be re-ranked in Category 11 at the conclusion of this week’’s BMW Asian Open, with the most successful of the 39 players who won their Tour cards at San Roque Club last November set to be rewarded with more playing opportunities on the 2005 International Schedule.
Sweden’’s Peter Gustafsson, who won The Qualifying School on the south coast of Spain before Christmas, looks set to retain his position as the number one ranked player in Category 11 following his second place finish the same venue where he triumphed at The Qualifying School in the Jazztel Open de España en Andalucía two weeks ago.
With earnings of €209,237 so far in 2005, Gustafsson is 21st on The European Tour Order of Merit, with the next best Qualifying School graduate, England’’s Ian Garbutt – who took the 23rd card at San Roque in November – winning €109,643.
With one event to play before the season’’s first re-rank, Englishman Neil Cheetham has made the most significant move of all the players who earned Tour cards at the 2004 Qualifying School.
Cheetham memorably eagled the 108th and final hole of the Qualifying School examination to take the 31st Card, and went onto take second place at the third event of the 2005 season at the dunhill championship in South Africa. Cheetham has earned €108,772 this season, and is currently positioned to be re-ranked as number three in Category 11 at the conclusion of play at the Tomson Shanghai Pudong Golf Club on Sunday May 1, 2005.
Players in Category 11 of The 2005 European Tour will be re-ranked as follows:
(i) As at May 2, the top 20 official money winners from within Category 11 on the 2005 European Tour Order of Merit will be ranked 1-20 in money order in Category 11 and the remainder followed on in the order established at the Qualifying School. The first tournament entry deadline to be affected will be the Telecom Italia Open.
(ii) As at July 25, all players in Category 11 will be re-ranked in order of official money won on the 2005 European Tour Order of Merit. The first tournament entry deadline to be affected will be the Scandinavian Masters by Carlsberg.
Re-Rank 1 position will determine entry into the following events:

The Celtic Manor Wales Open
The KLM Open
Aa St. Omer Open
Open de France
