Record Prize Money Announced For Linde German Masters

A record prize fund of 3,000,000 euro, an increase of 300,000 euro, has been announced for the 2002 Linde German Masters, confirming the tournament’’s position as one of the leading events on The European Tour International Schedule.

The Linde German Masters, to be played at GC Gut Lärchenhof, Cologne from September 12-15, will carry a first prize of 500,000 euro and, for the first time, the winner will receive a five year exemption as the tournament now carries Category 2 Exemption status.

Ernie Els and José Maria Olazábal, currently Numbers Two and Three respectively in the Volvo Order of Merit, have both confirmed to play.

Els, twice a US Open Champion and the World Number Three, has already won three times this year having captured the Heineken Classic and the Dubai Desert Classic on The 2002 European Tour International Schedule and the Genuity Classic on the US PGA Tour.

Olazábal's start to the season is equally impressive with victories in the Omega Hong Kong Open on The European Tour and the Buick Invitational on the US PGA Tour.
