Red Bull Physio Unit Launched on The European Tour

The Red Bull Physio Unit, a state-of-the-art mobile gymnasium and golf-specific treatment centre, was launched on The European Tour at the 61st Telecom Italia Open at Castello di Tolcinasco Golf & Country Club, Milan.

Red Bull has upgraded and refitted the facility to provide The European Tour Members with a fully refurbished Unit which operates as a ‘drop-in’’ centre before and during the majority of Tour events during each season.

On board the Unit, the players receive treatment for injuries, work out on the fitness machines and obtain professional advice on keeping their bodies in shape in order to compete on the Tour. This 50-foot juggernaut will be present at all events on The European Tour International Schedule for the rest of the 2004 season, following the Tour as it traverses Continental Europe.

On board is The European Tour’’s team of five dedicated physiotherapists. This international team, comprising two Belgians, an Englishman, an Irishman and a Scotsman, has a wealth experience in golf physiotherapy under the tutelage of The European Tour’’s Director of Physiotherapy, Guy Delacave.

“Having treated the players of The European Tour for the last 13 years I have seen just about every injury or strain it is possible for a golfer to get,” said Delacave. “The Red Bull Physio Unit will allow us to give the players the best physical preparation and treatment available while competing at a tournament.”

He added: “Fitness is incredibly important for today’’s golfers. In modern golf, where the margins between success and failure are so tight, it is essential that a player is in peak physical condition for him to perform at the top of his game.”

George O' Grady, Deputy Executive Director of The European Tour, said “The physical and mental demands on the modern professional golfer are such that fitness and the correct preparation are vital components in the game.

“We are committed to ensuring first class facilities for all our Members, many of whom seek the advice of our excellent Physiotherapy Team, and in Red Bull we have joined forces with a strong partner to further develop The European Tour’’s Physiotherapy Unit and Service.”

Red Bull said: "We are delighted to be helping The European Tour players with the Red Bull Physio Unit. In golf, if you are not in good physical condition or mentally focused for the game your performance can suffer. Guy and his team have done a wonderful job for the players for many years and will continue to do so from the new Unit."
