Jeev Milkha Singh’s stunning 2006 got even better with his second consecutive win on the Japan Golf Tour at the Golf Nippon Series JT Cup. After winning the Casio World Open the previous week, Singh produced rounds of 67-65-67-70 for a 72 hole total of 269 (-11) for a two shot victory over Nobuhiro Masuda.
Victory for the Indian, his fourth world-wide this year, saw him finish second on the Japan Golf Tour Money List, after already capturing the Asian Tour Order of Merit and finishing 16th on The European Tour Order of Merit.
The rise and rise of Singh, the first Indian golfer to earn his European Tour card through the Qualifying School, is further highlighted by his climb up the Official World Golf Ranking from 319th in April to his current position of 47th.
All this was achieved during a remarkable sequence of endurance that has seen him play 32 events in the last 34 weeks since the Masters. In total, Singh has played a staggering 39 events in 2006 spanning 11 countries.
Singh’s run began with victory at the Volvo China Open, an event co-sanctioned by The European Tour and the Asian Tour, in April. That success elevated the 34 year old into the top 200. A series of top ten finishes in Asia and Japan followed before he broke into the World’s top 150 with his joint fourth place finish in the Smurfit European Open at The K Club.
The next breakthrough came with his victory in the Volvo Masters at Valderamma, which lifted him to 77th in the World Ranking before his back-to-back victories in Japan carried him into the World Top 50.
