Andres Romero claimed a wire-to-wire victory at Argentina’s 19th Torneo de Maestros after the final round at Olivos Golf Club was cancelled due to the threat of a thunderstorm. The tournament was therefore decided over 54 holes with Romero winning with a nine under par 204, three shots ahead of Angel Cabrera and four clear of Daniel Vancsik.
“I wanted to win because this is a very important tournament, but also because I wanted to approach the final stage of my best professional season on a high note. It was great to finish ahead of players such as Cabrera and Vancsik. This means I’m doing well,” said Romero.
This was Romero’s second Masters’ title. The other goes back to 2003, when he won his first career title at the Tour de las Americas’ Panama Masters. With six career wins in four years as a professional, the Argentine European Tour Member is the most successful man in a new generation of stars emerging from the TLA ranks. “All of this is too good to be true, but it is,” said the ecstatic 25 year old, soon to team up with Cabrera at the WGC - World Cup in Barbados.
