England’s Justin Rose remained in contention for his maiden victory in the United States, lying one stroke off the lead after the second round of the US PGA Tour's BMW Championship.
Rose, who narrowly missed out on victory in The European Tour's BMW PGA Championship in May after a play-off, followed his opening 65 with a two under par 69 at Cog Hill Golf and Country Club in Illinois to lie joint third with Americans Tiger Woods and Steve Stricker and Colombia’s Camilo Villegas at eight under par 134, while Australian Aaron Baddeley and American Jonathan Byrd lead on nine under par.
An eagle on the 15th for Rose, where he holed his bunker shot from 80 yards, proved the highlight of a round where he also mixed three birdies with three bogeys.
"It's nice to get back on the horse," said Rose who missed the cut at last week's Deutsche Bank Championship on the US PGA Tour. "Last week was disappointing, so it's nice to get some confidence going straight away. I'm in the thick of it. I've hit some great shots the first two days."
Of the leaders, Baddeley, who also led last week’s event at the halfway stage, shot a 65 and Byrd a 69 to lie at nine under par 133.
Three other European Tour Members - Sergio Garcia, Adam Scott and Nathan Green – lie five shots off the halfway lead on four under par 138.
