Justin Rose fired a final round of 68 to end up in a tie for fifth place on 11 under par 271 at the US PGA Tour’s BMW Championship, which was won by his playing partner and World Number One Tiger Woods on Sunday. Woods' 63 saw him finish on 22 under par 262 and overhaul overnight leaders Aaron Baddeley and Steve Stricker.
The Englishman, who lost a play-off to Anders Hansen in The European Tour’s BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth Club, was left to rue his third round 69 at Cog Hill Golf and Country Club, Illinois. Rose dropped two shots on the front nine before picking up four shots coming home.
"Obviously I was never in the golf tournament after that," said Rose. "I was just playing for a good finish, and from that perspective, I was never really a threat."
Rose, playing with Woods for the fifth time competitively, said of his final round. "I felt like I didn't really play that well but I ground out a good score. I didn't feel 100 percent comfortable, but at the same time I think I stayed focused, worked hard and got a decent score out of it." He earned $270,000 for his efforts and 1,900 FedExCup points.
Stricker and Woods, who were previously second and third respectively on the FedEx Cup points list, overtook leader Phil Mickelson, who took the week off, heading into next week's Tour Championship, the final event in the four-tournament play-off series.
European Tour Member, Australia's Adam Scott, was fourth in Chicago on 15 under par 270. Spain's Sergio Garcia was ninth and England's Ian Poulter tied for tenth place.
