Justin Leonard produced one of the greatest comebacks in Open Championship history with an eight-birdie 65 in the last round to surge to a three stroke victory over Darren Clarke and Jesper Parnevik.  Leonard had started the final round five shots adrift of leader Jesper Parnevik but he raced to the turn in 31 strokes and then drew level with a birdie at the 16th.  Another birdie at the tough par three 17th, where he holed from 30ft, put him into the lead and within sight of victory.  A cast iron par at the 18th for a 12-under-par 272 total set a target none of his challengers could match.
