Australian Brett Rumford took the early lead as the Austrian Golf Open got under way in Vienna.
Rumford began the Omega European Masters in Switzerland two weeks ago with a nine under par 62, the lowest round of his European Tour career by two, but finished only 32nd.
Another low score was on the cards when he began his bid for a fourth European Tour win with a birdie and then picked up three more in a row from the fifth.
At four under he led by one from compatriot Chris Gaunt, England’s Phillip Archer and Lee Slattery, Scot Marc Warren and Italian Alessandro Tadini.
Ryder Cup Dane Søren Hansen, at World Number 42 the highest ranked player taking part, was among the later starters, but double Masters Tournament champion José Maria Olazábal, who was given a late invitation to the event, stood one under par after eight holes.
