Schwartzel, a four-time winner of this event, began the day three shots behind fellow South African Stone but opened his final round with birdies at the first and second to move to 16 under par.

The 32 year old then carded pars at the third and fourth holes at Leopard Creek Country Club to stay one behind Stone.

Stone safely parred his first two holes before pulling off a good save at the third to remain at 17 under.

Keith Horne was alone in third on 14 under after making one birdie and one bogey in his opening three holes.
