South African Charl Schwartzel, who has topped South African Order of Merit for the last three years and won his second European Tour title in April, has confirmed this attendance at the Quinn Direct British Masters at The Belfry from September 20-23.
Schwartzel won the Open de Espana at Centro Nacional de Golf in Madrid in April exactly 50 events after claiming his first victory in the 2005 Dunhill Championship in his native South Africa. In 2002, at the age of 18, he became the third youngest player ever to secure his European Tour card through the Qualifying School. He is currently in the top 15 on The European Tour Order of Merit and in the top 50 in the Official World Golf Rankings.
Schwartzel will compete against fellow South African champions from the 2007 European Tour International Schedule Anton Haig and Richard Sterne for the coveted title and £1.8 million prize fund.
The Quinn Direct British Masters returns to the Brabazon Course at The Belfry for a second successive year.
Schwartzel said: “It’s always a pleasure to play at one of the world’s most famous venues where there is so much history attached. The Belfry always creates great drama and I hope that I can be in the middle of it in September.”
