Former Masters Champion Charl Schwartzel will return to Western Australia later this year to contest the Perth International from October 23-26, 2014.
The South African successfully defended his Dunhill Championship title on home soil at the start of the season, the third time he had triumphed at that event, and has since gone on to record further top ten finishes at the Nedbank Golf Challenge, WGC-Cadillac Championship, 143rd Open Championship and the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.
He will hope to take that form to Lake Karrinyup Country Club when he returns for the first time since the inaugural event in 2012, when he missed the cut, as he looks to add to his nine career European Tour titles.
“I really enjoyed my experience in Perth two years ago but having played the course and experienced the conditions I’m looking forward to a strong finish at the tournament in October,” said Schwartzel.
“I’m playing well this year but am hungry for a win after a few close calls and I’m looking forward to returning to Perth.”
Schwartzel becomes the third Major Champion to be included in this year’s field along with Jason Dufner (2013 US PGA Championship) and Geoff Ogilvy (2006 US Open Championship). They will be joined by Frenchman Victor Dubuisson, five-time European Tour winner Brett Rumford and defending champion Jin Jeong.
Wade Ormsby will also be in the field after his best ever year on the European Tour so far, and the Perth International will be a great opportunity for him to play his way in to the Final Series on The Race to Dubai.
Lake Karrinyup Country Club is widely acknowledged as Western Australia’s premier private golf club and has been regularly rated as one of the top ten courses in Australia.
Tickets for the Perth International start from $22 and are available from Ticketmaster, and children under 16 will gain free entry with a paying adult.
The Perth International, now in its third year, is owned and promoted by IMG, is proudly supported by the Western Australian Government through Tourism WA, and is the only Australian tournament co-sanctioned by the European Tour and the PGA TOUR of Australasia.
