The modified stableford scoring system, which has proved so successful in the past two stagings of the ANZ Championship on The European Tour, is to be retained for the 2004 tournament at the Horizons Golf Resort, Sydney, Australia, from February 12-15.
The decision to retain the scoring format was made in consultation with the major sponsor of the event and after discussion with a number of leading players.
The modified stableford format is the same as that utilised at The International tournament on the US PGA Tour, played at Castle Pines Golf Club in Denver, Colorado.
The points scoring system is as follows:
Albatross 8 points
Eagle 5 points
Birdie 2 points
Par Zero points
Bogey minus 1 point
Double bogey minus 3 points
(or worse)
Horizons Golf Resort, the host for the 2004 event, is at Port Stephens, approximately two hours north of Sydney. The par 72 course was designed by Graham Marsh and the tournament will provide Aus$1.75 million in prize money.
Paul Casey will be the defending champion in Sydney following his four point victory at New South Wales Golf Club in Sydney in February.
