European Tour Member Adam Scott of Australia secured his third US PGA Tour title with a comfortable four stroke victory in the Booz Allen Classic.
Scott, a winner of four titles on The European Tour, held off a late charge from American Charles Howell III with a final round of 68 for a 21 under par total of 263 at the Tournament Players Club at Avenel..
Howell III finished second after a closing 65 with defending champion Rory Sabbatini of South Africa was third after a final round 66 gave him a 15 under par total of 269.
Germany's Alex Cejka and American Olin Browne were joint seventh on 273. The 23 year old stretched the lead to seven on the front nine, but then on the 11th hole Howell began a string of five straight birdies that would pull him within two shots.
After three putting the par five 13th for par, Scott answered with consecutive birdies on the 14th and 15th holes and added another at the 17th to add the title to his victory in the Deutsche Bank Championship last season and the Players Championship in March on the US PGA Tour.
“It's nice to be able to respond to a little bit of pressure," said Scott, who started the day with a six-shot lead over Olin Browne. "I also would have liked to have been out in front a lot more all day. My putting really carried me to the last five holes. That's how you win golf tournaments, with the putter."
