Scott Surges Clear with Course record in Boston

Australian Adam Scott surged into a two shot lead at the halfway stage of the Deutsche Bank Championship in Boston, shooting a course record nine under par 62 to move to 11 under par 131 and clear of Fiji’’s Vijay Singh with England’’s Justin Rose a further shot back.

On a leaderboard bearing more resemblance to The Deutsche Bank – SAP Open TPC of Europe on The European Tour International Schedule than a regular US PGA Tour event, no fewer than five European Tour Members occupy positions in the top ten with Darren Clarke only four shots off the lead in joint sixth place and Greg Norman, like Singh an Honorary Member of The European Tour, a further shot adrift on six under par 136.

Scott shaved a stroke of the course record set the previous day by Rose to take command of the tournament, playing his last ten holes in eight under par which included two eagles in the space of three holes.

Eagles at the par five 18th and second holes at the TPC at Boston got his round going and four birdies in his last six holes completed an excellent day’’s work.

“It was kind of just a normal day out there until the 18th, my ninth, where I made eagle and that got me going," said the 23 year old from Adelaide, winner of the Scandic Carlsberg Scandinavian Masters in Sweden four weeks ago.

"I think that put me up to five under for the tournament. I felt like now is the time to get right in the tournament. I just kept it going on the next nine holes."

Singh, carded a 68 for a 36 hole total of nine under par 133 as he chases his third win on the US Tour this season while Rose, like Scott playing on a sponsors invitation, followed his opening 63 with a level par 71, his four birdies countered by four bogeys.

He lies alongside Australian Geoff Ogilvy on 134, eight under, while Clarke, win er of last week’’s World Golf Championships – NEC Invitational, continued his rich vein of form with a three under par 68 to lie on seven under par.

The Deutsche Bank Championship is scheduled to finish on Monday.
