Second staging of Women and Girls’ Golf Week

Women and girls will celebrate their love of golf and be encouraged to take up the sport when a second awareness week is held across Great Britain and Ireland later this summer.

Building on the success of last year’s online campaign from England Golf, Women and Girls’ Golf Week will take place from 29 July - 4 August, coinciding with the AIG Women’s British Open being staged at Woburn from 1 - 4 August, and is supported by Scottish Golf, Wales Golf and The Irish Ladies Golf Union.

The European Tour is committed to supporting the Women in Golf Charter by working closely with stakeholders in the industry to enhance and encourage the involvement of women in all areas of our game and joins the R&A, the Ladies European Tour, the Professional Golfers’ Association and the Golf Foundation in support of the Women and Girls Golf Week.

Continuing to push the boundaries with innovative formats, the recent success of the Jordan Mixed Open only highlighted the global appetite for golf as men and women competed side-by-side for the same trophy and for the same first prize, bringing together players from the Ladies European Tour, European Challenge Tour and Staysure Tour.

Furthermore, the European Tour, the LPGA Tour, the PGA of Australia and Australian Ladies Professional Golf collaborated to deliver the 2019 ISPS HANDA Vic Open, which saw both men and women playing alongside each other on two golf courses at 13th Beach Golf Club in Geelong for equal prize money.

Most recently, Meghan MacLaren and Florentyna Parker were the first women to be announced for GolfSixes Cascais and will combine to form the England Women’s team for the third edition of the innovative event from June 7-8.

Following the roaring success of the 2018 GolfSixes, where the European Women’s team was represented by Mel Reid and Carlota Ciganda, while Georgia Hall and Charley Hull teamed up for England Women, MacLaren and Parker will join forces in one of the 16 teams teeing it up in Portugal.

This year’s Women and Girls’ Golf Week also builds on the first ever Golf and Health Week held last month, which again saw various golfing bodies working collaboratively to highlight the sport’s health benefits.

Women and Girls’ Golf Week will also draw attention to the 2019 Solheim Cup, the match between the top women professionals of Europe and the USA, which takes place at Gleneagles in September.

Women and girl golfers everywhere, from beginners to volunteers to leading Tour players, are invited to join the conversation, again using the #WhyIGolf

Clubs across the home nations are also encouraged to deliver activity in line with the themes of the week, promoting participation activities they are running for women and girls through initiatives such as Get into Golf, New2Golf, Girls Golf Rocks, Golf4Girls4Life and We Love Golf.
