The Spaniard carded ten birdies and a single bogey in his third round to join Ryder Cup team-mate Matthew Fitzpatrick on 11 under.

Beginning the day seven strokes behind halfway leaders Sergio Garcia and Francesco Molinari after posting matching rounds of 71 on Thursday and Friday, Cabrera Bello reached the turn in 33 on Saturday after mixing four birdies with a bogey on his front nine.

And he continued to impress on the back nine, making back-to-back gains at the 11th and 12th.

Further birdies at the 14th and 15th saw Cabrera Bello get to nine under, and when he rolled in his birdie putt from 15 feet at the 17th, he found himself just one shot behind Fitzpatrick at the top of the leaderboard.

Cabrera Bello then closed his round with another birdie to set the clubhouse target on 11 under.

Defending champion Rory McIlroy, who sits fourth in the Race to Dubai rankings presented by Rolex, was another five shots back after completing his third round in 68 shots.

McIlroy fired five birdies in his first 15 holes to get to six under, but a dropped shot at the last saw the Northern Irishman slip back to five under.

Race to Dubai leader Henrik Stenson was also on five under after 17 holes courtesy of a birdie blitz on his back nine.
