The Seri Selangor Golf Club will play host to the Omega Mission Hills World Cup Qualifier – Asia from August 26 to 29 as teams vie for three places in the annual showpiece in China later this year.
This will be the second time since 2006 that Seri Selangor will host the two-man team qualifying tournament.
Entries from Asia, Europe and Africa are expected for the Qualifier which will be supported by One World Hotel, 100Plus and Srixon.
The format of play will be similar to the World Cup where fourball is played in the first and third rounds while foursomes is played in the second and final rounds.
Like Asia, Europe and South America will also host a qualifier each where the top three teams will earn their tickets to the World Cup.
Asian Tour Executive Chairman Kyi Hla Han believes that nationalistic pride will be at the forefront at the par 71 Seri Selangor course.
“It is always an honour to represent your country and we are looking forward to seeing professional golfers give their best and challenge for the three slots to China at the Omega Mission Hills World Cup Qualifier – Asia later this month,” said Han.
Seri Selangor General Manager Hairul Zaini said: “The club is excited and proud to have the opportunity to host the World Cup Qualifier once again. We are confident that our golf course will be in prime condition, especially after the conclusion of another highly successful Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters last weekend.”
A total of 28 nations will make up the final teams to play at the World Cup in Mission Hills Golf Club from November 26 to 29 where they will play for a total prize fund of US$5.5 million.
Robert Karlsson and Henrik Stenson of Sweden are defending champions.
