Vijay Singh edged closer to winning the US PGA Tour Money List for the first time, firing a second round 68 for a one under par halfway total of 141 in the US Tour Championship at the Champions Club while Retief Goosen stepped up his bid to win the season-ending event, lying just two strokes of the pace.
Tiger Woods, chasing a record fifth Arnold Palmer Award, is the only player who can catch Singh at the top of the Money List, but with the Fijian, an Honorary Member of The European Tour, holding a commanding $768,494 lead over the World Number One, Woods needs to win the Tour Championship with Singh finishing lower than a tie for third.
Singh lies one stroke adrift of Woods who added a second successive 70 for a 36 hole total of 140 but significantly Charles Howell III lies six strokes ahead, leading the tournament on eight under par 134 after a second 67.
Goosen, like Singh an Honorary Member of The European Tour and winner of the Volvo Order of Merit in 2001 and 2002, also shot a four under par 67 to lie on 136 in third place.
The South African briefly moved into the lead with a run of three successive birdies but found trouble on the 17th, almost finding water behind the green and ultimately salvaging a bogey with an 18 foot putt.
Darren Clarke improved on his opening 74 with a second round 68 to move to level par, eight shots off the lead.
