Singh Leads Chasing Pack in New York

World Number Two Vijay Singh heads a chasing pack in the Barclays Classic on the US PGA Tour on three under par 68 and three adrift of first round leader Jim Furyk.

Furyk fired a six under par 65 at the Westchester Country Club, New York, firing five birdies on his back nine including two to finish.

Three strokes adrift were Fijian Singh, champion at Westchester in 1993 and 1995, Americans John Rollins, Brian Bateman and Kenny Perry, Ian Leggatt of Canada and Japan's Hidemichi Tanaka.

Defending champion Sergio Garcia was in contention at three under par until a collapse late in the round sent the Spaniard tumbling down the leaderboard.

Riding the momentum from his win at the Booz Allen Classic two weeks ago and a joint third-place finish in the US Open last Sunday, Garcia was three par under through 14 holes before bogeying the last four to register a one over par 72.
