Singh Tops US Tour Money List

Vijay Singh became the first European Tour Member to win the US Tour Money List title since Greg Norman in 1995 when he finished joint fifth in the Tour Championship presented by Coca Cola at the Champions Golf Club at Houston, ending Tiger Woods’’s dominance of the title.

Only victory by Woods in the season-ending event could have denied the 40 year old Singh his first Arnold Palmer Award but in the event the World Number One, seeking an unprecedented fifth Money List title, shot a closing 74 to slip back to 26th place.

That left Singh top of the Money List with $7,573,907, his joint fifth place finish underlining his consistency as his 11th top ten in the last 12 events. Woods was second with $6,673,413.

“I’’m really proud of what I have accomplished this year,” said Singh, who was made an Honorary Member of The European Tour in 2001 in recognition of his two Major Championship victories – the 1998 US PGA Championship and the 2000 Masters Tournament.

“Especially at my age it is a great accomplishment. I still have to improve on a lot of things, you never stop working. After the Presidents Cup I will look back and see what I need to work on.”

Chad Campbell claimed the title, his first on the US Tour with a final round of 68 for a 16 under par 268, three strokes clear of Charles Howell III. Retief Goosen, winner of the Volvo Order of Merit in 2001 and 2002, finished third on 272, 12 under par.
