Six European Tour Members have successfully progressed through sectional qualifying for the 2002 US Open Championship taking the total number of European Tour players in the field to a record 28.
Per-Ulrik Johansson, Greg Norman, Thomas Levet, Peter Lonard, Jeev Milkha Singh and Jean Van de Velde will join the 22 players already exempt at Bethpage State Park, Farmingdale, New York, from June 13-16.
Norman, the 1986 and 1993 Open Champion, shot rounds of 68 and 71 to lead the group of 77 participants at Old Memorial Golf Club in Tampa, Florida. He last played in the US Open in 2000 and will be making his 19th appearance at Bethpage State Park.
Johansson survived a play-off at Century Country Club and Brae Burn Country Club to join Singh and Van de Velde while Thomas Levet was one of three players to qualify at Ansley Golf Club.
Lonard finished top of the field of 203 players to be the first of 34 qualifiers from Woodmont Country Club with rounds of 65, 63.
