Gonzaga Escauriaza, President of the Spanish Golf Federation, has emphasised the importance of Andalucia’s role in the European golfing calendar, with the region playing host to three European Tour events in 2010.
The Open de Andalucia de Golf, the Open de España and the Andalucia Masters will ensure that Andalucia, which will host three of the seven events on Spanish soil during 2010, has a presence on The European Tour’s International Schedule throughout the season and will play a vital role in the final standings of this season’s Race to Dubai.
Speaking at the International Tourism Fair in Madrid, Escauriaza said: “Andalucia is a pioneering community in the world of golf, and one of the first communities to put real importance on golf tourism.
“To now be hosting three European Tour events in one season is an outstanding achievement. Many other great golfing nations have only one European Tour event in the year, whereas we have three tournaments, one of which is our National Open Championship, the Open de España that is returning to the magnificent Real Club de Golf Sevilla.”
