Richard Sterne’s power and accuracy off the tee in the South African Open Championship helped him seal his second consecutive European Tour victory.
A quick glance at the Genworth Financial Statistics for the tournament at Pearl Valley Golf Estates show that the South African was third in the Driving Accuracy category, hitting 82.1 per cent of fairways.
He was also ninth in the Driving Distance category with an average of 301.9 yards. Sterne also showed a fine touch with his putter, finishing 13th in the Putts Per Round category with an average of 28.2, and 17th in the Putts Per Greens in Regulation category with an average of 1.690 putts per hole.
The 27 year old’s solid iron play also contributed to his play-off victory over Gareth Maybin, with Sterne hitting 76.4 per cent of Greens in Regulation to finish 15th in that category.
