Germany’s Sven Strüver helped to raise €11,822 for Genworth Financial’s 'Putts for Charity' Initiative at The Deutsche Bank Players’ Championship.
The money will be distributed to The Children’s Hospice Home Care Service, in Frankfurt, and the charity of The European Tour players, GOLFAID, which raises funds for deserving organisations and projects worldwide under the maxim of ‘Golfers Giving Back’.
During The Deutsche Bank Player's Championship in Gut Kaden, Hamburg, Strüver’s one-putt, taken at the specially constructed three-hole putting green at the Genworth exhibition booth, was rewarded with a €5,000 donation from the insurer.
That stroke kick-started several days of fundraising where every one-putt made by professionals participating at the tournament earned €2 for the two nominated charities.
Visitors to the tournament were also given the opportunity to contribute by attempting their own one-putt, netting a further €2 to the charities for every hole completed in one stroke.
Marcel Globisch, Head of the Children’s Hospice Home Care Department, of the German Children’s Hospice Society commended the initiative.
He said: “We are absolutely delighted to be named as one of two charity organisations that will benefit from the wonderful Putts for Charity event. As our work for children with terminal illnesses and their families mainly depends on donations, the money raised here will help us to continue the care provided for the families in their homes.
“We would like to thank Genworth Financial, the players and those attending the tournament for this unique support. We are very proud to be chosen as a partner in this international project.”
'Putts for Charity' is a fun way to link our sponsorship of The European Tour Statistics to our corporate value, Heart,” added Bob Brannock, President of Genworth Financial’s international business. “We are delighted to support our chosen charities in this way.”
The event is the third of its kind to be held by Genworth at European Tour tournaments and coincides with the company’s local sponsorships. In the previous two events, more than £13,000 was raised in May at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth Club, Surrey, with a further €12,000 donated at Ireland’s Smurfit Kappa European Open at The K Club, County Kildare, in June.
Genworth Financial is the Official Sponsor of The European Tour Statistics programme and is also sponsoring four events on The European Tour International Schedule.
The Genworth Financial Statistics programme collects and distributes players’ performance data in the eight main statistical categories: Stroke Average, Driving Accuracy, Driving Distance, Greens in Regulation, Putts per Greens in Regulation, Putts per Round, Sand Saves and Scrambles.
