Swedish Team of the Year award for Karlsson and Stenson

Robert Karlsson and Henrik Stenson received the Swedish Team of the Year award at the Sports Gala ceremony in Stockholm last weekend in recognition of their 2008 Omega Mission Hills World Cup triumph.

Twelve months ago Karlsson picked up the Swedish Male Athlete of the Year award and he followed that accolade with team success this year. While their success in the Omega Mission Hills World Cup came at the end of 2008, the votes for that year had already been cast so their nomination was carried over to 2009.

Having become the first Swede to win the Harry Vardon Trophy as Europe’s leading money winner, Karlsson capped a momentous 2008 season by partnering Stenson to World Cup success at Mission Hills, China, at the end of the year and it was this feat that was recognised.

They received the award during the ceremony last weekend before heading to the Middle East for the Abu Dhabi Gulf Championship.

“It’s an honour to have Henrik as a partner,” said Karlsson. “It is very easy to play golf beside him.”

“It is a huge plus to play with Robert,” added Stenson. “It’s great to have him as a partner and we enjoyed a great week in China.”

The Swedish golfers beat the ladies bandy team of Lina Andersson and Anna Olsson and the Under 21 national football team to the prestigious award.
