Taking advantage of the wonderful weather conditions in the Canary Islands, the second of three European Tour events in a row began on Thursday with partners and supporters of the Tenerife Open gathering at Golf Costa Adeje for the pro-am before the action started in the first European Tour event to be held in Tenerife since 2003.

The all-female Disa team won the 16-team pro-am on Wednesday alongside seven-time European Tour winner Gonzalo Fernandez-Castaño, with a net score of 28 under par. Gonzalo is one of only four players participating in the Tenerife Open this week who were also in the field when Golf Costa Adeje hosted the Canarias Open de España 18 years ago.

Other key partners of the Tenerife Open who teamed up with professionals to take part in the pro-am day included Gobierno de Canarias, Turismo de Tenerife and host venue Golf Costa Adeje.

“The fact that the European Tour has chosen Tenerife and Canary Islands to hold three tournaments is a great opportunity to show the quality and professionalism of the Canary Islands companies and the people who work in them, to host this kind of competition in safety and comfort. Hotels such as Sheraton La Caleta, where players are staying, have a host of advantages that also bring fans of golf and outdoor sports to Tenerife in their leisure time", said Florencio de la Rosa, Director of Corporate Strategy and Diversification of the DISA Group.

A representative of Turismo de Tenerife said: "All the Tenerife Tourism Invitees enjoyed a wonderful day of golf during the pro-am with some of the best professional golf players on the European Tour. We are very thankful for the excellent organisation and we are confident that the Tenerife Open will be a great success."

Following the Tenerife Open, the final event of the Canary Islands Swing - the Canary Islands Championship – also takes place at Golf Costa Adeje from May 6-9.
