Played a week before The Open Championship, The Barclays Scottish Open is always one of the most keenly contested championships. First played in 1972 at Downfield and 1973 at St Andrews, the tournament returned in 1986 after a 13 year break when it was played at Haggs Castle. Eight editions were contested at Gleneagles and two at Carnoustie before the championship spent 15 years at Loch Lomond Golf Club and in 2011 the event moves to Castle Stuart Golf Links. Only Ian Woosnam and Ernie Els have won multiple tites, with Woosnam winning twice at Gleneagles and once at Carnoustie and both of Els' victories at Loch Lomond. In 2010, Edoardo Molinari captured his maiden European Tour title and in doing so claimed a place in Europe's Ryder Cup Team, with his nerveless performance convincing Colin Montgomerie to hand him the final Captain's pick.
