The best celebration in golf - 'The Miguel'

Such is Miguel Ángel Jiménez’s tendency to hole spectacular shots, his celebratory imaginary sword-wielding dance, which incorporates his putter, has now become a familiar sight.

Jiménez had shown off his dance moves on plenty of occasions before, but the first time we saw what has become known as ‘The Miguel’ in full, where his imaginary sword gets slotted away in its holdall after the customary Spanish jig, was after his terrific hole out at the True Thailand Classic last year. Think Mask of Zorro meets charismatic Spanish golfer, and you have ‘The Miguel’.

Whether carefully planned or off the cuff, the European Tour legend soon had another chance to show off his Spanish musketeer skills, and what better place to show it off for a second time than in front of his home fans at the 2015 Open de España.

The routine secured cult status after his hole-in-one on the par three eighth during the second round in Barcelona – a moment made all the more special by that ace moving Jimenéz to nine career holes-in-one, level with Colin Montgomerie for The European Tour record.

Do you think repeating the celebration twice in one tournament would lessen its impact? Not a chance. Incredibly, Jimenéz again holed out later in the tournament, this time for an eagle two, and gave the crowd another rendition of 'The Miguel'.

More dancing from Miguel in Spain

Just a week after his home heroics, on the third day of the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, Jimenéz made history as he broke Monty’s record with an ace on the par three second hole. We do not need to tell you what happened next...

If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, Jimenéz would have been delighted to see his trademark routine copied before his very eyes.

Andrew ‘Beef’ Johnston holed out for eagle from the 18th fairway at the 2015 Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open and, after remembering who his playing partner was, could not resist testing his moves against Miguel’s. Who do you think does it best?

Johnston is now running his own competition on Twitter asking for fans to send in their best celebrations. Expect to see the finest one performed by ‘Beef’ himself when next he holes out.Get involved here.
