The story behind Peter Uihlein's Zoolander wedges

Wedge engraving has become a popular trend in professional golf. Some of the best players in the world have their names or those of loved ones on their wedges, others have messages or phrases they like inscribed on their scoring clubs.

Peter Uihlein is a little different.

The American has quotes and words from his favourite comedy movies on his wedges.

“I’ve done it a bunch – the boys at Titleist have been good with me like that," says Uihlein. "I’ve had ‘The Other Guys’ quotes, I’ve had ‘Semi Pro’ – the Will Ferrell movie – and now I’ve done Zoolander. I like to do stuff like that – my buddy Morgan Hoffman has had a bunch of movie quotes as well so it’s a nice way to keep things light."

Uilhlein's four wedges are named Blue Steel, Magnum, Ferrari and Le Tigra, each a name of a pose in the 2001 Ben Stiller film Zoolander. The 26 year old takes the naming even further.

When I’m out with my caddie Sam we don’t actually say the wedge number, we just say the quote from the movie. That keeps it kind of fun.

Uihlein may have new names on his wedges after this week however. He has been paired with actor Jamie Dornan at this year's Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. Could there be some 50 Shades of Grey quotes on the American's wedges soon? If so, we may not be able to share them.
