All you need to know ahead of the 2026 Genesis Scottish Open.
How the Closing Swing works
The Genesis Scottish Open marks the first event of the Closing Swing - the fifth and final Global Swing on the DP World Tour's 2025/26 Race to Dubai schedule.
As part of the Strategic Alliance between the DP World Tour and PGA TOUR, there will be opportunity for players to compete for benefits on both Tours across the ISCO Championship, which takes place the same week as the Genesis Scottish Open.
A week later, focus will be on Royal Birkdale for The Open, rounding out the men's Major Championship season, with the PGA TOUR's Corales Puntacana Championship held concurrently.
A three-week summer break is followed by the return of the Danish Golf Championship before the Swing concludes with a European-based event that is still to be announced.
History of the event
This year marks the 44th edition of Scotland's national Open since it was one of the founding events on the DP World Tour - formerly known as the European Tour - in 1972. It has been a permanent fixture on the DP World Tour schedule since 1986.
In 2017, it became part of the Rolex Series - the DP World Tour's premium event category.
It was further elevated in international significance, becoming the first-ever tournament to be co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour and PGA TOUR in 2022.
Rory McIlroy, Colin Montgomerie and Ernie Els are among the array of world-renowned past champions, with Ian Woosnam a record three-time winner.
In 2025, Genesis, the luxury automotive brand from South Korea, was renewed as title partner through 2030 - a partnership that first started in 2022.
Who is in the field?
As both a Rolex Series event on the DP World Tour’s Race to Dubai and part of the FedExCup on the PGA TOUR, the tournament features a split field of 75 players from each of the DP World Tour and PGA TOUR, with additional spots to leading players from the Korean Professional Golf Association (KPGA), in a nod to Genesis’ Korean heritage.
Last year, all of the top five, and eight of the top-ten players on the Official World Golf Ranking played.
Five-time Major winner Rory McIlroy has already confirmed his participation.
Keep across the DP World Tour website for updates on player announcements, with the full field set to be announced two weeks before the event starts.
The venue
The Renaissance Club is set to host the event for the eighth consecutive year in 2026.
Designed by renowned golf course architect Tom Doak, the course in North Berwick first staged the event in 2019.
Last year, the tournament welcomed record crowds, with 88,735 people lining the fairways and packing the grandstands across the week.
Not only did that figure better the previous high of 76,024 at Renaissance Club in 2024, but also the largest recorded crowd for the event of 85,921 at Loch Lomond in 2009.
What happened last year?
In just his sixth DP World Tour appearance and second outside of the United States, Chris Gotterup won his first DP World Tour title.
Tied for the lead with McIlroy heading into the final round, the American showed impressive composure to register a closing 66 and win by two shots.
Already a PGA TOUR winner by then, Gotterup went on to record a career-best third-place finish at a Major in The Open Championship a week later.
