Thomas Björn Moves up to World Number 22 as Vijay Singh Becomes World Number One Elect

Thomas Bjorn won the Daily Telegraph Dunlop Masters in a play-off from David Howell and Brian Davis at the Marriott Forest of Arden on the European Tour. Bjorn moves up 7 places to World Number 22, Howell climbs 15 places to a career best 37th and Davis jumps 13 places to Number 68.

Ted Purdy played a flawless final round of five-under-par 65 to win the EDS Byron Nelson Championship by a single stroke from Sean O’’Hair. Both these players break into the World Top 100, Purdy a leap of 104 places to World Number 69 and O’’Hair jumps 228 spots to World Number 96.

Vijay Singh has closed the gap at the top just 0.08 average points after winning 20.68 points for his tied third place at the EDS Byron Nelson Championship where Tiger Woods missed the cut winning no points. Singh lost 20.23 points off his total in week 20 as the graduated decline system reduced the weighting on the points from his 2003 EDS Byron Nelson Championship win and his 2004 PGA Championship victory. By contrast Woods only lost 4.12 points in week 20 so the net effect was that Woods stays just ahead. With neither player scheduled to play Singh will become World Number One next week as in Week 21 Woods loses 14.25 points while Singh loses 2.54 points.

Hur Suk-ho from Korea won the 73rd PGA Championship on the Japan Golf Tour with all four rounds in the 60s. The win takes him to World Number 92 and improvement of 27 places.

On the Asia Tour Wang Ter-chang won the Macau Open at Macau Golf & Country Club and moves up to World Number 282.

The week’’s other winners were Chris Couch at the Rheem Classic on the Nationwide Tour, Rafael Gomez at the XX Tessali-Metaponto Open on the European Challenge Tour and David Mathis at the Michelin Morelia Classic on the Canadian Tour.
